So, I'm surfing the channels on Directv and ran across some videos. Now, I love music, all types: neo soul, alternative, rap, country western, dance hall and house (to name a few). On this particular day (a Wednesday to be exact), I landed on some rap videos. The song that caught my attention was called the "Stanky Leg." Now, I understand the song is just a song, but what baffles me is having little girls on there doing the stanky leg. So, I asked myself... "Self, do you think those little girls are that focused on their school work and do they actually believe that dance is cute?" Granted, I have passed the age of 30, so things that were cute to me when I was 22 now seem idiotic to me now.
So, I wonder.... Do the younger generation believe videos to hold worth or do they understand that videos are for entertainment? Yes, some rappers use their music to tell their journey in life and to educate their listeners, but I fail to understand exactly the purpose of the "Stanky Leg!" Don't get me wrong, I am not "dissing" the song, just wondering how much validity stems from music? Do I think music is the problem for the "cries" in the world today? NO, not at all!!! I believe music is a form of education and that we [society] should understand rearing comes from within the home not the idiot box!
